About St Twrog's Church, Bodwrog

St Twrog’s Church, Bodwrog is a small rural church near Gwalchmai in central Anglesey, Gwynedd. Dedicated to the early Welsh saint Twrog, it is no longer used for regular worship and has been cared for by a church conservation charity since 2024. The building is protected at Grade II* for its architectural and historic importance and was open to visitors in May 2025.

The present church was constructed in the late 15th century and retains much of its medieval fabric, despite later alterations and a Victorian restoration. Its walls are formed from rough stonework finished with limestone dressings, while slate covers the roof. Surviving medieval details include the southern entrance, several windows and a former northern doorway adapted as a window. Carved bull’s heads there indicate an association with the influential Bulkeley family of Beaumaris. A stone bellcote stands at the western end and holds a bell dated 1668.
