About St. Mary's
St Mary’s is a small medieval Anglican church in the countryside near Dwyran, Gwynedd, Wales. It remains an active place of worship within a united parish, with services held monthly from April to September. The church is designated Grade II*, reflecting the importance of its largely preserved late-medieval character.
Probably built during the fifteenth century, the church has rubble-stone walls with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. Stone mullions were added to the nave windows in the sixteenth century, while the roof timbers date from that century or the early seventeenth. After becoming too unsafe for worship, it underwent repairs during the nineteenth century, though these were less extensive than alterations made to many comparable Anglesey churches. Further work followed in 1936. Notable fittings include a carved font from the twelfth century, an ornamented thirteenth-century coffin cover and a bell cast in 1582.
