About St Ceinwen's Church
St Ceinwen’s Church is a Church of England place of worship near Dwyran, Gwynedd, standing within a walled churchyard beside the A4080, about 800 metres west of the village. It remains in use and is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
Tradition attributes its foundation to the sisters Ceinwen and Dwynwen, who also established the ruined church on Llanddwyn Island. The present church dates from the 12th century, with its original nave walls surviving alongside a medieval chancel. A former north doorway from the same century has been sealed. The north chapel and tower were added during the 19th century, while stones marking graves from the 9th and 11th centuries were incorporated into the buttresses. Other notable features include an ornamented 13th-century stone font and brass chandeliers dating from the early 1800s.
