About Old Church of St Gwenllwyfo, Llanwenllwyfo
The Old Church of St Gwenllwyfo, Llanwenllwyfo is a ruined medieval church near Dulas, Gwynedd, Wales. It stands among trees within a cemetery that is no longer in use. The roof has gone, and the remaining walls have been lowered to about 1.5 metres, or five feet.
The surviving building may have been constructed during the 15th century, possibly replacing an earlier church whose 12th-century font remained. Dedicated to the seventh-century saint Gwenllwyfo, it served as a chapel of ease for Amlwch. Repairs and alterations took place around 1610, during the 18th century and again in 1812. Its nave and chancel formed one undivided space, with walls approximately 0.9 metres thick. Notable fittings included a carved oak screen and pulpit dated 1610. A larger replacement opened nearby in the 1850s, receiving the bell and an early 17th-century memorial brass. The old building deteriorated thereafter, and its roof fell in 1950.
