About St Cadwaladr's Church

St Cadwaladr's Church is a parish church in Bodorgan, Gwynedd, Wales. Dedicated to King Cadwaladr, its patron saint, it belongs to the Bro Cadwaladr benefice alongside seven other local churches. The church is protected as a Grade I listed building.

The site originated as a royal monastery established by Gwynedd’s rulers around 615. The present building has a T-shaped Perpendicular plan, with a nave dating from the twelfth or early thirteenth century and a fourteenth-century chancel. The Meyrick Chapel was added around 1640 and reconstructed in 1801, while the Bodowen Chapel followed around 1661. A restoration in 1856 included the addition of the southern porch. Notable survivals include King Cadfan ap Iago’s inscribed seventh-century grave marker and fifteenth-century stained glass depicting Cadwaladr, Mary and John, restored in 1850. The churchyard contains the wartime graves of four British airmen and one Polish airman.
