About St Clement's

St Clement’s is a Church of England parish church at 6 Edge Lane in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester. It remains in use for Anglican worship and belongs to the Diocese of Manchester’s Hulme deanery. The church is protected as a Grade II listed building.

A chapel dedicated to St Clement was founded nearby in the early sixteenth century, probably in 1512, and was replaced by a brick chapel in 1779. Growing local needs led to the present church, designed by Pennington & Bridgen in the Decorated Gothic style. Construction began in 1860, the roof was completed in 1866, and consecration followed in 1896. W. Higginbottom later designed the north transept, added in 1883, the Lady Chapel of 1895, and the south transept of 1896. Notable details include an eight-sided turret at the south-west corner and stained glass in the eastern window.
