Saint Mary the Virgin is an active Church of England parish church on Church Street in Twickenham, Greater London. Standing near York House and the Thames, opposite Eel Pie Island, it continues to serve much of central Twickenham. The church is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
An earlier medieval church occupied the site, and its fifteenth-century tower remains. After the old nave collapsed in 1713, local architect John James designed a Neo-classical replacement, completed in 1714 with the involvement of churchwarden and painter Godfrey Kneller. The red-brick nave has Tuscan pilasters and pediments, and was extended in 1754. Surviving features include eighteenth-century gallery fronts and a reredos, alongside older memorials such as a 1443 brass commemorating royal cook Richard Burton and his wife Agnes. The tower contains eight bells dating from the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
