About St Martin's Church, Ruislip
St Martin’s Church, Ruislip is a Church of England parish church in Ruislip, Greater London. It occupies a site close to Manor Farm, towards the north of the town’s High Street. The church has held Grade I listed status since January 1950, recognising its exceptional historic and architectural importance.
Although Ruislip had a church by 1086, the current building is thought to have replaced it around 1245 as the local population grew. The nave and present chancel have medieval origins, while much of the south aisle was reconstructed by parishioners in 1440 and extended around 1500. The tower was erected during the fifteenth century and contained bells that received funding for repairs in 1463. Norman-marked stones discovered in the grounds may survive from the earlier building. Architect George Gilbert Scott oversaw a substantial restoration in 1870, and a rood beam commemorating the local Gower family was installed in 1958.
