About St. Monica’s Church

St. Monica’s Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in Palmers Green, north London. It stands at 1 Stonard Road, where the road meets Green Lanes, within the London Borough of Enfield. The parish remains active, providing worship, pastoral support, community work and social initiatives. As recorded in 2021, its ministry included two priests, a religious sister and a lay youth worker. Sunday worship is held at 6.00 pm.

Founded as a Catholic mission in 1910, the church was completed under Father Patrick Gallagher and opened by Cardinal Francis Bourne on 4 May 1914. A neighbouring presbytery followed in 1931. Notable interior features include oak carvings of the Stations of the Cross and the richly patterned Byzantine-style mosaics of the Sacred Heart Chapel. Its carved wooden furnishings were commissioned from Oberammergau, while stained glass by Franz Mayer & Co depicts Christ with children. The organ was first played at Christmas 1924 and blessed the following January.
