About St. Alban's Catholic Church
St. Alban's Catholic Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in North Finchley, London, standing at the junction of Nether Street and Birkbeck Road. It belongs to the Barnet Deanery within the Diocese of Westminster and continues to serve as a parish church.
The parish was established in 1903, and the building was finished five years later. Dedicated to Saint Alban, it has a tower containing an alcove with a statue of the saint. Beside the principal entrance is a memorial commemorating those who died in the First World War. Among the people named is Royal Navy Acting Lieutenant Cyril Edward McLaughlin, who received the Distinguished Service Order in 1919 for courage and dedication while clearing mines under enemy fire. He died later that year during service aboard HMS Humber in northern Russia.
