About Our Lady of Victories
Our Lady of Victories is an active Roman Catholic parish church at 235a Kensington High Street in London. Situated in Kensington, it serves the local Catholic community and is protected at Grade II, a designation awarded in 2016.
George Goldie designed the earlier church, inaugurated in 1869. From then until 1903, it functioned as Westminster Archdiocese’s provisional cathedral. The structure was lost during an incendiary raid in September 1940, but parish worship carried on in various local buildings. Adrian Gilbert Scott later planned the replacement, completed in the 1950s and formally opened in 1959. It retains Joseph Goldie’s entrance screen from the 1930s. Inside are windows designed by C. F. Blakeman and a substantial crucifix from Bavaria, now forming the twelfth station in the sequence depicting Christ’s journey to Calvary. Lindsay Clark created the figure of Mary positioned over the entrance facing Kensington High Street.
