About Our Lady of Dolours

Our Lady of Dolours is a Roman Catholic parish on Fulham Road in Chelsea, west London. Administered by the Servites, it ministers to Catholics from the neighbourhood and overseas. Its address is 264 Fulham Road, beside St Mary’s Priory and not far from Brompton Cemetery. A mixed Catholic primary school occupies an adjoining site. The church is designated Grade II.

The parish originated with Philip Bosio and Augustine Morini, two Servite missionaries who travelled from Florence to London in 1864. J. A. Hansom produced its Gothic Revival design in 1873, and work commenced in 1874. Cardinal Manning dedicated the completed building on 19 September 1875. Hansom subsequently planned the street-facing tower and priory elevation, erected in 1879–80, as well as the distinctive colonnaded approach of 1894. Interior highlights include bronzes depicting Christ and Saint Peter, J. M. Swynnerton’s 1896 Pietà and an organ dating from 1968, made by Grant, Degens and Bradbeer to a design by Henry Jones.
