About Christ Church, Broadway
Christ Church, Broadway was an Anglican place of worship in the City of Westminster, within London, Greater London. It is no longer standing. After severe bomb damage in 1941, its surviving remains were gradually removed, and the parish became part of St Peter’s, Eaton Square.
A chapel serving St Margaret’s, Westminster, was erected from 1638 to 1642 on land set aside for interments in 1625. Thomas Blood and the engraver Wenceslaus Hollar were among those buried there. Between 1841 and 1844, this chapel gave way to a new church by architect Ambrose Poynter and received its later dedication. An air raid devastated most of the building on 17 April 1941. The property was sold five years later, and demolition of the ruins followed the war. The tower survived longer, but was taken down in 1954.
