About St Clement's Church, Ilford
St Clement's Church, Ilford was an Anglican church formerly situated in Park Avenue, Ilford, Greater London, within the present-day borough of Redbridge. The building ceased to exist when it was pulled down in 1977.
Erected over the period from 1889 until 1896, the church was designed by the architectural firm Cutts Brothers. Clement Ingleby, who lived at Valentines, provided the site. It first served as an additional place of worship connected with St Mary’s, Ilford, but became the parish’s principal church in 1902. The right to select the vicar belonged to All Souls College in Oxford. William Henry Jackson worked there as curate for around four and a half years, beginning in 1912. He subsequently became a missionary in Burma, now called Myanmar, and developed Braille for the Burmese language.
