About Holy Trinity Church
Holy Trinity Church serves the Church of England parish of Longlevens in Gloucester. Completed in the 1930s, it is now protected at Grade II. The designation reflects the exceptional survival of its period interior, including a coordinated collection of furnishings created mainly to the architect’s designs.
Harold Stratton Davis drew up the plans, and construction took place from 1933 to 1934. Its design interprets the Perpendicular Gothic architecture of the fifteenth century. The walls combine red Coleford brickwork, arranged in a Flemish pattern, with stone detailing from Guiting, while Cornish slate from Delabole covers the roof. It succeeded a nearby Victorian mission chapel built from corrugated iron. Gloucester blacksmith Alfred Bucknell supplied decorative metalwork, and local freemasons presented the font. The glazing includes historic German and Dutch panels, moved from St Luke’s in High Orchard when it was pulled down during 1934. A chapel window created by Molly Meager dates to 1989, and a pair of commemorative war tablets stands at the western end.
