About Church of the Holy Trinity
The Church of the Holy Trinity serves as an active Anglican parish church in Southchurch, within Southend-on-Sea, Essex. Its parish falls under Chelmsford Diocese and Southend Archdeaconry. The building received Grade II* protection on 23 November 1971, placing it in the second-highest category of listed structures in England.
A wooden place of worship formerly stood here, before a masonry replacement was erected in about 1150. Surviving fabric from that Norman-era building is incorporated into the present structure. A bell tower followed during the fifteenth century. Restoration took place in 1857, when stained-glass windows characteristic of the Victorian period were installed. Sir Ninian Comper oversaw an enlargement in 1906, while Frederick Charles Eden added the chancel during 1931 and 1932.
