About St Peter's, Littlebury Green
St Peter’s, Littlebury Green is a Church of England church in the Essex village of Littlebury Green, close to Saffron Walden. It is within the Diocese of Chelmsford and belongs to the Cam Village Churches group. In November 2025, the building received Grade II listed protection.
The church was erected in under six months during 1885, providing a more convenient chapel for people living around two miles from Holy Trinity in Littlebury. It welcomed worshippers from 29 June that year. Constructed from prefabricated corrugated metal panels, it stands on brickwork and is supported by a wooden structure. Gothic-influenced doors and windows, a western entrance porch and a small timber bell turret distinguish the exterior. The nave, chancel and adjoining vestry retain pine surfaces and numerous early fittings. These include many pews, the font, altar rails and Stations of the Cross. Coloured transfers showing saints and scriptural characters survive in several windows, while Delft tiles frame the stone-and-wood reredos.
