About Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul
The Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul is the Church of England parish church serving Burton Pidsea in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Recognised for its exceptional historic and architectural interest, it has held Grade I listed status since 1966.
A place of worship was documented in the village by about 1160, and some fabric in the nave and tower may survive from that time. The chancel dates initially from the early 1200s, while the nave was reconstructed and the southern aisle and chapel were introduced during the 14th century. The tower was renewed in the following century. Built mainly from cobbles with dressed stone, the church has a slate covering and a brick porch. Its three-storey western tower features angled buttresses, pointed windows and a battlemented parapet. Inside is an eight-sided font from the 13th century. R. S. Smith directed restoration from 1866 to 1868, including another rebuilding of the chancel.
