About All Saints' Church, Burstwick
All Saints’ Church, Burstwick is a Church of England building in Burstwick, East Riding of Yorkshire. It has been Grade I listed since 1966. Although repair work was undertaken after costs were estimated at £250,000, the church ceased to hold worship on 1 February 2023.
Dating from about 1250, the building retains its medieval nave and several early windows. A southern chapel dates from the 14th century, while the chancel, northern aisle and chapel, and western tower were added during the following century. Constructed from cobbles and stone with limestone detailing, it has slate and lead roofing, alongside a brick porch roofed with pantiles. Restorations included work to the chancel in 1830, reconstruction of the porch in 1853, and replacement flooring and roofing in 1893. Interior features include medieval stained-glass fragments, 17th-century grave slabs, later wall monuments, and royal arms made by John Catlyn in 1676.
