About Church of St Anne
The Church of St Anne is a Church of England parish church in the Brough area of the East Riding of Yorkshire, serving the village of Ellerker. It is protected as a Grade II listed building, a designation granted in 1968.
A chapel existed in Ellerker by 1101, when the village formed part of the parish centred on All Saints in Brantingham. The earlier chapel was taken down, and the present church was erected in 1843 and 1844 using its chancel arch and much of its masonry. This was John Loughborough Pearson’s first church design and an early example of his Gothic Revival work in the East Riding. Built in stone beneath slate-covered roofs, it has a nave, south porch and a lower chancel. A small bell opening, topped by a gable and cross, rises above the western end. The east window is pointed, with three lights and a projecting moulding above.
