About Our Lady and St Nectan's Church, Hartland
Our Lady and St Nectan's Church was a Roman Catholic church in Hartland, Devon. It no longer stands, having closed in November 2010 and been demolished two years later. Its closure followed an announcement by Christopher Budd, then Bishop of Plymouth, who said that no priest was available to continue celebrating Mass there.
Local residents built the church during the 1960s. Cyril Restieaux, Bishop of Plymouth, consecrated it on 8 December 1964, which coincided with the Roman Catholic solemnity commemorating the Immaculate Conception. Clergy serving Sacred Heart Church in Bideford also ministered at Hartland. The last Mass at the church took place on Thursday 11 November 2010, bringing its 46 years as a place of Catholic worship to an end.
