About St Olaf's Church, Bude

St Olaf’s Church, Bude is an active Church of England parish church in Stratton, Cornwall. Built around 1250 and dedicated to Olaf II of Norway, it remains a place of worship and can accommodate about 300 people. The church is protected as a Grade I listed building.

Its medieval fabric developed over several centuries. The font, piscina and aumbry are from the 13th century, while the south aisle contains work from the 14th and 15th centuries. Caen stone was used for the northern nave pillars and southern arch, with granite forming the pillars on the south side. The porch and western tower were added in the 15th century, and the studded door dates from the 16th. Restoration in 1928 revealed foundations belonging to an earlier Norman building, although none survives above ground. Wall paintings from around 1470, including a depiction of St Christopher, were uncovered beneath whitewash in 1894.
