About St Columba's Church, St Columb Major

St Columba's Church, St Columb Major, is an active Church of England parish church in Cornwall’s Diocese of Truro. This Grade I listed building forms part of the joint benefice of Lann Pydar, together with the churches at St Ervan, St Eval and St Mawgan.

Although largely built during the 14th century, the present structure contains work from the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries. Its octagonal stone font dates to around 1300 and has carved faces, while surviving woodwork includes bench ends from 1510, wagon roofs and a rood screen. After a gunpowder explosion caused severe damage in 1676, repairs funded by donations and a parish levy were finished within nine months. The church also contains an organ made by Bryceson & Ellis in 1870, eight bells cast between 1776 and 1950, notable memorial brasses, and an east window and oak vestry screen created around 1906.
