About St Paul's Church, Tintagel
St Paul’s Church, Tintagel is a Roman Catholic place of worship in Delabole, Cornwall. It is under the care of the Diocese of Plymouth and forms part of Bodmin parish, which also includes congregations at Wadebridge, Padstow and Bodmin.
The present church dates from 1967, with Bishop Cyril Restieaux of Plymouth conducting its consecration the following February. Its congregation began as a mission served by Lateran Canons from Bodmin, initially gathering at Trevena Social Hall. Inside is Hanspeter Steiner’s 30,000-piece mosaic showing the restoration of St Paul’s vision. Above the principal altar hangs Nicholas St John Rosse’s modern treatment of the Last Supper, featuring local residents as Christ’s disciples. Further details include windows fashioned by Buckfast Abbey monks and a Virgin Mary figure sculpted in Cornish serpentine. The church also preserves a memorial volume containing the names of babies who died through miscarriage, stillbirth or other circumstances.
