About Christ Church
Christ Church stands on Ffordd Llanrwst in Bryn-y-Maen, a village about three kilometres south of Colwyn Bay in Conwy. This active Church in Wales parish church forms part of the Diocese of St Asaph. It has Grade II* protection and is also called the Cathedral of the Hills by local people.
Erected in stages from 1879 until 1899, the church was paid for by Eleanor Frost to commemorate her deceased husband, Charles. John Douglas and Daniel Fordham created a Neo-Perpendicular design in locally sourced limestone, complemented by Helsby sandstone for the architectural details and internal stonework. The cruciform layout has a spacious nave, a southern aisle and a compact battlemented tower positioned above the choir crossing. The interior features eight-sided arcade supports and broad, nearly rounded arches beneath the tower. Its extensive Douglas-designed woodwork and furnishings include the altar screen, choir seating, pulpit, reading desk, organ housing, covered font, benches, donation box and umbrella stand.
