About Alderley Edge Methodist Church
Alderley Edge Methodist Church stands on Chapel Road in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. It remains in active use as a Methodist place of worship and, together with its adjoining hall, is protected at Grade II for its architectural and historic interest.
Completed in 1863, the church and hall were designed by Hayley and Sons. The buildings use sandstone beneath roofs covered in Welsh slate. The church has a nave, two lateral chapels and a south-west tower topped by a broach spire with small openings. Decorated-style tracery appears in the windows, including a rose window in one chapel. Inside are a gallery at the west end, along with a pitch-pine pulpit and lectern. A two-manual organ made by A. Young and Sons in 1881 was subsequently renovated by Charles A. Smethurst. The interior was reorganised during the mid-1990s.
