About Park Street English Congregational Church
Park Street English Congregational Church stands in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, at the meeting of Murray Street and Inkerman Street. This Congregational church has held Grade II listed status since 3 December 1992, recognising its architectural character as a notable place of worship from its era.
Designed by the London architects Lander and Bedells, the church was constructed in 1864–65 as Llanelli’s population expanded alongside the local tinplate and steel industries. Its Gothic-inspired exterior includes a narrow square tower, an eight-sided upper section and a simple masonry spire. Inside, the relatively low space has a timbered gallery at one end. Stained glass was added in several phases, including work by Abbot and Co in 1884 and 1908, later installations in 1919 and 1934, and a Celtic Studios window from 1974. The protected fabric also covers the 1896 iron railings and Gothic gateposts on Inkerman Street.
