About St Anne's Church
St Anne’s Church is a Grade II listed Anglican church in Roath, Cardiff, standing at the junction of Croft Street and Snipe Street. After closing in 2015, it returned to use in 2019 as the home of the Urban Crofters congregation, which holds both Eucharistic and informal Sunday worship.
Its origins lie in a school chapel established in 1872 to serve a rapidly expanding local population. The foundation stone for the present building was placed in 1886, and the church was completed in 1887 to designs by J. A. Reeve, who had trained under William Burges. Reeve’s ambitious scheme was simplified, although the chancel and spire followed his initial plans. A northern aisle was added in 1891 and its southern counterpart in 1937. Part of the west end was converted into a hall in 1991, while later grants supported roof repairs and further refurbishment.
