About Church of St Nicholas, Swineshead

The Church of St Nicholas, Swineshead, is a Church of England church in the Huntingdon area of Bedfordshire. It holds Grade I listed status, recognising its exceptional architectural and historic importance. The building was formally added to the statutory list on 13 July 1964.

Dating from around 1350, the church was established during the fourteenth century. Parts of the building were added in the fifteenth century, reflecting a later stage in its development. Among its notable surviving features are several medieval wall paintings, together with a number of misericords. These carved supports, fitted beneath hinged choir seats, form part of the church’s historic furnishings and complement the fabric retained from its medieval construction and subsequent additions.
