About Saint Cyriac's

Saint Cyriac’s is a Church of England church on Church Street in Lacock, Wiltshire. Dating chiefly from the 14th century, it is protected as a Grade I listed building, a status granted in 1960. Recent improvement work has included reroofing the nave and south transept.

The building may incorporate Norman foundations, possibly occupying the location of an earlier Saxon church. Partial rebuilding took place during the 1300s, followed by substantial work in the 15th century as Lacock prospered from the wool trade. This produced the present Perpendicular Gothic, cross-shaped structure and an eastern chapel financed by the Bonham and Croke families. The octagonal tower was reconstructed in 1604, while a two-storey southern addition followed in the early 17th century. Inside are memorials associated with several local landowning families. The chancel was replaced in 1777, and later restorations included work by A. W. Blomfield in 1861 and Harold Brakspear in 1902.
