Wakefield Cathedral is an Anglican place of worship on Westmorland Street in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Dedicated to All Saints, it serves both as a cathedral within the Diocese of Leeds and as an active parish church. It holds equal cathedral status alongside Bradford and Ripon and was granted Grade I protection in 1953.
The church stands where a Saxon building once existed and appears in records from 1086. A Norman successor was later replaced, first in 1329 and more extensively during the fifteenth century. George Gilbert Scott and John Oldrid Scott restored much of the building from 1858 to 1874, shaping its present medieval appearance. Sandstone ashlar faces the exterior, while older elements include Norman-era masonry in the northern aisle and carved timber roofs. Rising to 247 feet, the spire is Yorkshire’s tallest. Inside are choir seats with medieval carvings, fittings from the seventeenth century and windows chiefly created by Charles Eamer Kempe.
