About Holy Trinity
Holy Trinity is a Church of England parish church on Towngate in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire. It is protected as a Grade II listed building, a designation granted in 1967. The former burial ground was transformed into Holmside Gardens, a memorial garden, during the mid-1960s.
Christian worship on the site is documented from the late fifteenth century, when Edward IV awarded the church a grant that Richard III later confirmed. The earliest stone church was finished in 1500. It was replaced in 1632 by a larger building with additional seating and gained parish church status around 1651 or 1652. After serious flood damage in 1777, another rebuilding produced the present church in the 1780s. Its tower was constructed later and initially housed six bells; the number was expanded to eight in 1934. A ramp providing disabled access was installed in 2019.
