About Holy Trinity Church
Holy Trinity Church is an active Church of England parish church serving Bingley in West Yorkshire. The parish includes St Wilfrid’s in Gilstead and belongs to the Bingley Group Ministry, alongside All Saints and its associated churches. Formerly within the Diocese of Bradford, it has formed part of the Diocese of Leeds since 2014.
The original church was consecrated in 1868 as Bingley’s population expanded during the Industrial Revolution. Designed by Victorian architect Richard Norman Shaw, it combined Italian Gothic architecture with Pre-Raphaelite influences. A tower was added later, but its foundations proved inadequate, with concerns recorded by 1882. Serious cracking led to demolition by explosives on 7 April 1974, after nearby residents were evacuated. Parishioners raised £23,000 for a replacement on the same site, which was dedicated on 5 December 1975. Glass from the earlier building was incorporated into the new rose window.
