Steyning Methodist Church stands at 18 High Street in Steyning, West Sussex, serving the town and nearby villages. The church remains part of the Worthing Methodist Circuit, which comprises nine congregations. Its position, slightly back from the historic street, falls within Steyning’s conservation area.
The present church was built for Wesleyan Methodists after their earlier chapel became too small. Designed by Worthing architect James E. Lund, it opened for worship in April 1878 following delays caused by the original contractor’s bankruptcy. The Gothic Revival structure, built of flint with yellow brick, was planned to seat 300 people and included a schoolroom for 200. Further rooms were added beside the schoolroom in 1925. Later improvements included electric lighting in 1952 and substantial interior renovations in 1968 and 1979, the latter providing an enlarged kitchen and an additional meeting room.
