About St Thomas
St Thomas is an active Church of England parish church in Wednesfield, Wolverhampton, in the West Midlands. It serves much of the town alongside St Alban’s and the nearby parish church of St Gregory’s. The church has been protected as a Grade II listed building since February 1977.
First consecrated in August 1750, the church began as a chapel connected with St Peter’s Collegiate Church in Wolverhampton. It gained its own parish in 1849. A fire on 18 January 1902 destroyed nearly all the original structure, leaving only the tower intact. The building was subsequently reconstructed in a style resembling its predecessor. It is built of brick with dressings of ashlar stone.
