About St Giles
St Giles is a Church of England parish church on Walsall Street in Willenhall, West Midlands. It continues to serve its parish and has held Grade II listed status since 1986.
Christian worship on the site can be traced to around 1313. A decaying medieval church was replaced in 1750, retaining its earlier tower, but the present Gothic building was constructed in 1866–67 to designs by Wolverhampton architect W. D. Griffin. Faced with red sandstone and roofed with tiles, it has a 30-metre north-west tower, pointed nave arcades and carved foliage on the column capitals. The east window dates from 1867, while a commemorative organ was installed in 1898. Twentieth-century work included new choir stalls in 1911 and, in 1927, a vestry, side chapel, altar and carved oak pulpit. The six older bells were recast in 1937, when two further bells were added.
