About Emmanuel, Parish Church of Wylde Green
Emmanuel, Parish Church of Wylde Green stands on Birmingham Road in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands. It serves as a Church of England parish church and is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
William Bidlake designed the church, which was constructed in stages from 1909 to about 1926. The nave and aisles had been finished before the First World War, while the chancel was postponed until the post-war period. Bidlake’s plans also provided for transepts and a tower above the crossing, but neither was built. A lady chapel and parish hall followed in 1967. The church has a Willis organ dating from 1932, originally installed at the Seventh Church of Christ Scientist in South Kensington. After its transfer to Wylde Green, Stephen Bicknell created a Gothic-style case featuring a curved, gabled central section.
