About St James, Eve Hill

St James, Eve Hill is a Church of England church on The Parade in Dudley, West Midlands. It belongs to the Diocese of Worcester and is protected as a Grade II listed building. The parish was established in 1844, four years after the building opened.

William Bourne designed the church in the Early English style, alongside St John’s at Kates Hill. Constructed between 1838 and 1840, it was consecrated by Robert Carr, Bishop of Worcester, in July 1840. Alterations in 1869 included rebuilding the chancel and clerestory, installing galleries, and adding a vestry and organ chamber. The interior has a nave, two aisles and seven-bay arcades supported by slender columns with leafy capitals. Notable details include the paired lancet bell openings in the west tower, a decorative iron rood screen, and a Caen stone pulpit portraying saints and figures from the Bible. A three-light stained-glass window stands at the east end.
