About St. Andrew's Church

St. Andrew’s Church is a Church of England parish church in Netherton, Dudley, standing on Netherton Hill and approached from Highbridge Road. It serves the local parish within the Diocese of Worcester and is protected as a Grade II listed building. Its churchyard includes unmarked communal graves for victims of the cholera outbreaks that affected Dudley in 1831 and 1832.

The foundation stone was laid in 1827, and the church was consecrated by the Bishop of Worcester in July 1830. Designed by Thomas Lee, it was built with parliamentary funding on land given by the Earl of Dudley. Initially a chapel connected with St Thomas’s in Dudley, it became Netherton’s parish church in 1844. The Early English design uses brick faced with local Gornal sandstone beneath a slate roof. Notable features include a western tower with four pinnacles, galleries carried on iron columns, original timber box pews and an organ by T. H. Harrison. Restoration took place in 1862, and an eastern vestry was added in 1938.
