About St Paul's
St Paul’s is on Lozells Road in the Lozells area of Birmingham, West Midlands. Formerly an Anglican parish church, it is protected at Grade II and no longer serves its original Church of England congregation. Since 1982, the building has been occupied by the First Born Church of God Assemblies.
Work began after Colonel Ratcliff set the foundation stone in place on 11 July 1879. Julius Alfred Chatwin designed the building, which was erected by the Wolverhampton firm Horsman and Co. The Bishop of Worcester dedicated it for worship on 11 September 1880. A Casson organ dating to 1889 was once housed inside. After the Church of England disposed of the property, its congregation joined the worshippers of nearby St Silas’, and another church was planned for the united parish.
