About St Basil's Church, Deritend
St Basil's Church, Deritend, is a former Church of England parish church in Birmingham, West Midlands. The Grade II listed building ceased to function as a church in 1978, when its parish joined that of St Martin in the Bull Ring. It is now home to the St Basil Centre, which supports young people.
The parish was created in 1896 using areas previously belonging to Holy Trinity and St Andrew’s, both in Bordesley. Arthur Stansfield Dixon designed the church, which was erected in 1910–11. In 1939, the parish combined with St John’s, Deritend, and this building served the newly united benefice under the name St John and St Basil’s. Harrison and Harrison supplied a pipe organ in 1911. After the church closed, the instrument was moved to Worcester Cathedral.
