About Broad Street Presbyterian Church
Broad Street Presbyterian Church is situated in central Birmingham in the West Midlands. Originally built for Presbyterian worship, it is now a former church and has Grade II protection. The premises subsequently served a Christian Science congregation and, following the end of religious use, operated as a nightclub.
Charles Cowan, an MP, set the foundation stone in place on 24 July 1848, with the new church opening the following year. Repairs and renewal followed in 1859. Its fortunes had declined by the early 1900s, and conversion to a picture house was suggested in 1914. A Christian Science church purchased the property in 1929. Among the fittings was an organ constructed by the firm of Brindley and Foster.
