About St Hilda's Church, Griffithstown

St Hilda’s Church, Griffithstown is an active Church in Wales parish church in the Pontypool suburb of Griffithstown, Torfaen. Dedicated to St Hilda of Whitby, it occupies a corner site where Kemys Street meets Sunnybank Road. The church serves Anglican worshippers from Griffithstown and the wider Pontypool community. It is recognised as a National Monument of Wales.

Constructed in 1887 and 1888, the church was designed by architect E. M. Bruce Vaughan. It initially functioned as a subsidiary place of worship for Holy Trinity in the historic parish of Llanfrechfa Upper, before Griffithstown became an ecclesiastical parish in 1898. Inside is a memorial tablet to Henry Griffiths, the railway station master after whom Griffithstown was named, recording his service as a churchwarden. A vicarage was added beside the church at a later date.
