About Saint James' Parish Church
Saint James’ Parish Church is an active Church of England parish church in Weybridge, Surrey. Standing on Church Street, it is protected as a Grade II* listed building and follows the liberal Catholic tradition. Regular Eucharist services are held on Sundays and Wednesdays, while the premises also accommodate a foodbank and several parish groups.
John Loughborough Pearson designed the present Gothic Revival church, which replaced an earlier medieval building dedicated to St Nicholas. Construction began in 1848 with the nave, chancel, aisles and bell tower. The spire followed in 1855, an extra southern aisle was completed in 1864, and the chancel was lengthened in 1889. Bargate stone forms the main structure, complemented by Bath stone details. Inside, the chancel has a floor incorporating more than twenty varieties of coloured marble, together with red and gold mosaic decoration. Memorials retained from the former church stand near the foot of the tower.
