St John’s is a Church of England parish church on Church Road in Redhill, Surrey. Set on a prominent North Downs site, it serves one of Redhill’s three ecclesiastical parishes and is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
The earliest church on the site was completed in 1843 to plans by James Thomas Knowles. Side aisles followed in 1867, before John Loughborough Pearson substantially reconstructed the building in 1889, creating a new nave and chancel while preserving the existing aisles. He added the south-west tower and spire in 1895, reaching 185 feet. Brick and stone distinguish Pearson’s work from the flint-faced aisles. Inside are extensive stained glass by Clayton & Bell, a gilded triptych reredos designed by Pearson, a marble pulpit depicting Lazarus, and an angel-shaped font. The Willis organ dates from 1897 and was rebuilt in 1968. Eight bells installed in 1895 were rehung in 1972.
