The Auld Kirk of Ayr is a Church of Scotland church on Blackfriars Walk in Ayr, South Ayrshire. Dating from the 17th century, it is protected as a Category A listed building. Its site has supported religious activity since the 1400s and was previously occupied by a Franciscan monastery, chapel and gardens.
The church was completed in 1654 after Cromwell’s new citadel led to the demolition of medieval St John’s Church. Local architect Theophilius Rankeine designed the original T-shaped building. Alterations by David Bryce in 1836 gave it a cruciform plan, with further changes made in 1933. Inside are a two-level panelled pulpit, wooden pews, leaded stained-glass windows and three upper galleries associated with tradespeople, merchants and sailors. Robert Burns was baptised here in 1759. The grounds include a Category B listed burial ground and boundary walls, while a lychgate dated 1656 provides access through Kirk Port.
