About St Andrew's Church
St Andrew’s Church is a Church of England parish church in West Coker, Somerset. Dating from the thirteenth century, it is protected as a Grade I listed building. The parish forms part of a joint benefice that also includes Odcombe, Lufton and Montacute, within the Yeovil deanery.
The church was built by the d’Evercy family, who owned the associated manor after Thomas d’Evercy acquired the estate in 1220. A chantry was established in 1306 by Sir Peter, with land and a dwelling provided for its priest. Additional aisles were constructed in 1469. Inside are memorials to Sir John Sydenham, who died in 1626, and members of his family, later holders of the manor. Several effigies were transferred from the churchyard during the nineteenth century and restored by the sculptor John Edward Carew.
