About Church of All Saints
The Church of All Saints is a Church of England parish church in Somerton, Somerset. It forms part of a five-parish benefice that also includes Compton Dundon, the Charltons and Kingsdon. The church is protected as a Grade II* listed building.
Originating in the thirteenth century, the church has undergone several periods of alteration. Its west tower was added during the fifteenth century, replacing an earlier tower on the north side. Restoration took place in 1869, followed by further work in 1906. Built of stone with Hamstone details and a slate-covered roof, the cruciform building comprises a nave, chancel and north transept. The four-level tower is strengthened by buttresses at its corners and contains a clock and six bells. Inside are a thirteenth-century font, a pulpit dated 1627 and a Hamstone figure of a knight with crossed legs.
