About St Luke

St Luke is an Anglican place of worship beside the B3223 in Minehead, Somerset. It has held Grade II listed status from 1959. The church continues to serve worshippers, while also providing a setting for concerts, other gatherings and the annual Simonsbath Festival.

Henry Clutton prepared the design, and construction took place during 1855–56 following a request from local people for a more accessible church. The Bishop of Bath and Wells consecrated it on 18 October 1856. Built in the Early English manner, it uses locally quarried Blue Lias with Bath stone detailing beneath a slate roof. The plan comprises a nave divided into three bays, a chancel, vestry and porch on the south side. One bell hangs in the bellcote above the west end. Inside are a patterned tiled floor and timber furnishings stained to resemble oak. A later stained-glass memorial honours men from the area who lost their lives in the First World War.
