About St Andrews
St Andrews is a Church of England parish church on Church Road in Langport, Somerset. Dating from the medieval period, it remains an active Anglican place of worship and is protected as a Grade I listed building. The parish belongs to the united benefice of Curry Rivel, Fivehead and Swell, in the Taunton archdeaconry.
The earliest surviving section is the Norman north chapel, while evidence suggests that a Saxon church may once have occupied the site. Although its origins lie in the thirteenth century, much of the present structure was created during the fifteenth century. The tower replaced an older one in 1861, when substantial changes were also made inside. It contains eight bells, including one cast in 1510. Among the interior’s notable historic features are monuments from the thirteenth century and a parclose screen.
